  QuicDoc® and Office Therapy® E-Newsletter

From the desk of James B. Miller, Director of Compliance and Quality Control

The month of April offers us the opportunity to focus on a number of topics including a few that are relevant to our industry. April is Alcohol Awareness Month, National Autism Awareness Month, and National Occupational Therapy Month, as well as National Child Abuse Prevention Month which we discuss briefly in this newsletter.

For fun, April is Jazz Appreciation month so listen to some jazz, or better still, attend a concert.

Here in the Mid-Atlantic, April is a time of growth and new beginnings. At DocuTrac we are working on a new web site designed to bring its appearance up-to-date and provide a more pleasant and comfortable user interface. We are also enthusiastically marketing our cloud hosted software, launching a new series of webinars (see below), as well as reviewing our business processes with the goal of improving our services.

New Webinar Series: Product Demos, Product Training, Q & A

Thank you to all those who participated in our Lunch and Learn Question and Answer Series last month. It was a tremendous success, and we appreciate the opportunity to answer your billing and insurance filing questions.

Based on the overwhelming positive response of Lunch and Learn, we are launching a new webinar initiative which includes product demos, product training sessions, and good old fashioned Question and Answer series.

The first session of our product training series is on the Claims Manager and the CMS 1500. It is being offered at a special rate of $15 for a half hour session and includes specific information regarding the correct administrative set up of Claims Manager, how to batch and file Primary and Secondary claims, resubmission of claims, and concluding with the all important Q & A that most of you look forward to hearing. Our normal training fee is $79/hour, so this is a real value! Don't miss out!

Click here for our interactive calendar which lists all upcoming events, fees, and information on registering.

Also, if there's a topic you'd like more information about and think it would make for a good webinar, send an email to us at sales@quicdoc.com or call 800-850-8510.

  National Child Abuse Prevention Month

During the month of April, National Child Abuse Prevention Month, we have the opportunity to focus on preventing child abuse and the importance of reporting child abuse, to encourage community involvement, and to support abused children.

The following link is a resource for Child Welfare Information, focusing on protecting children and strengthening the family.

Audit Log in Office Therapy Professional

Want to know who deleted a charge or an appointment in Office Therapy? Use the Audit Log to find out.

With the Audit Log security feature, you can track and audit activity. All additions, changes, and deletions, as well as viewing of information can be tracked. When enabled, the audit log tracks the activity, date/time, user, Windows user and computer name. The log tracks changes to client Information and related activity; transactions, such as charges, payments, etc., as well as billing, filing insurance, etc. and scheduling.

See our Knowledgebase article for information on how to set up and activate the Audit Log.

Professional Edition Software: Policy changes and RETIRING Software

As noted in our February and March Newsletters, we have retired all versions of QuicDoc and Office Therapy prior to Version 9. This became effective April 1st, 2013.

Please READ important changes to our support policies, pricing, and information on retiring software.

Tax Rates for the 2013 Tax Year

For 2013 Tax Planning: According to the author William Perez on About.com, "Individuals can use the tax rate schedules in a number of ways to help plan their finances. You can use these tax rates to figure out how much tax you will pay on extra income you earn. For a taxpayer in the 25% tax bracket, extra income will be taxed at that rate until the taxpayer reaches the next tax bracket of 28%.

Alternatively, you can use these tax rates to figure out how much tax you will save by increasing your deductions. A taxpayer in the 28% tax bracket, for example, will save 28 cents in federal tax for every dollar spent on a tax-deductible expense, such as mortgage interest or charity."

Here’s the link to the article by Perez showing the 2013 tax rates.

Signature Pad Functionality in QuicDoc Pro

Did you know that you now have the ability to use a Topaz signature pad device to sign your notes and treatment plans in QuicDoc Pro? You can have multiple signatures, and even use it for clients and other non-providers to sign notes and treatment plans.

Additionally, you can set up text to accompany the signature of a client or other third party individual. For example, the following text ‘By signing this document, I am agreeing with the treatment plan as prescribed by my treatment team.’ can be used for client signatures.

Once you are setup with the Topaz signature pad device, click on the Add button in the Sign Note window. Then select your options for either other providers, such as a supervisor, or select a non-provider, such as a parent or guardian, and then type in the individual’s name to add it to the list of required signatures.

For information on purchasing a signature pad, contact sales at 800-850-8510.
