At the beginning of the 2011 tax year IRS Section 6050W went into effect for all businesses that accept credit card, debit card or ACH payments and for the third-party institutions that provide card processing - including all merchant service providers.

This new IRS mandate requires all merchant services providers such as TransFirst® to validate and report back to the IRS their client's business tax identification number and all revenues associated with their merchant processing account beginning January 2011. This is an industry-wide mandate.

Your entities’ Legal Name and Tax-ID must match the W9 information recorded in the IRS database. The Legal Name and Tax-ID information must be validated against this data. In other words, if the Legal Name on file with TransFirst doesn't match the Legal Name on your W9 form then your Tax Payer ID is not validated. This could subject you to fines, penalties and withholdings established by the IRS in January.

There is an easy online form for you to use to validate your Legal Name and Tax-ID, which you can access at www.w9validation.com.

Did you know that you can adjust entries in our spell check Custom Dictionary?

Go to the Setup menu and choose Custom Dictionary. You'll see a list of words that have been added to the dictionary.

You can add new words here, or remove any accidental additions to the list. When finished, click on Save from the File menu, then close the window.
